She didn't really have a sense of just how far of a journey it would be, and how long they would have to barricade themselves in temporary shelters at night to avoid getting caught off-guard. She also wasn't thinking of the fact that they might be pursued, or possibly even attacked by regular humans. Despite spending most of her teenage years in a zombie apocalypse, Mafuyu was still a touch too idealistic.

I overheard some rumors from the traders that come into town sometimes. Apparently there's settlements out in the midwest, in places like South Nebraska and Kansas.

Apparently the summers are mild, and the winters are snowy enough that the zombies go dormant. And with all the extra space out there, there's plenty of room for farming and stuff.
