The news she received on a regular basis was filtered through about five people on average, so she rarely got the whole truth, or even anything resembling the truth. Even the rumors she was basing this whole thing on still could have been somewhat untruthful. But she was pretty sure that the boarder to Canada was closed, and even trying to cross it would mean getting shot.
Well, if Canada hadn't been overrun by zombies too, it was close enough to the USA that it could have gotten some infected people in before the borders closed. Or hell, people trying to sneak in at points could bring the spores with them too, and it wasn't like Canada had that huge fence like Mexico did.]
