[As John moved closed, he was able to make out a vaguely-Karkat-shaped thing in the darkness. He didn't see the hand right away, but he bumped into it soon enough, letting out a soft 'oh!' as he did so.

Then he immediately covered his mouth with his hands, because he was sure Karkat wouldn't have stopped him if it were safe out there. Whoops.]
