sci-fiAU crossover things
[They should have known that it was a futile effort.
Really, what had they been thinking? Six kids against an entire organization? Sure, they had Yukio (a second-class exorcist) and Rin (the son of Satan), but even with those two trump cards they still were outnumbered and overpowered. Even if they had their hearts in the right place, they were destined to fail from the start.
Zombies had to be the worst way to go, though. Bon didn't even know if they would actually die, or if they would become zombies themselves. Bon just couldn't let that happen to them, the mere thought of it was too horrible.
Somehow, in the fighting, Bon had become separated from the others, and he was stuck in a circle of zombies with Rin. He was out of ammo, and Rin was looking exhausted from fighting with his flames for so long. With the zombies getting closer, and their options slowly dwindling, it was looking more and more hopeless.
But Bon wasn't out of options yet. On his belt was one last item, a special grenade the headmaster had given him before they had left. 'If you are in a hopeless situation, use this', he had said. Bon had no idea what it did, but coming from the headmaster, it had to be important.
Even a grenade wouldn't be enough to kill all the zombies, though, and like hell was Bon letting himself become zombie chow. If he was going to die, it would be on his own terms.
But was Rin okay with that?
Bon realized he couldn't do it without at least asking.]
Okumura.
[If the resigned tone in his voice wasn't enough to clue Rin in, the fact that he was holding onto the grenade with one hand (and holding onto the pin with the other) was probably enough. Bon was going out on his own terms, but was Rin okay with that too?]

Kuro, Yukio, everyone... He didn't know where they were. He had heard Kuro cry out not too long ago, then his voice had gone silent. It made Rin nervous. The half-demon was panting and sweating, and his flames had bee reduced to dim sparks, spitting dark smoke. He may be satan spawn, but he was still half human, and that human side of him couldn't take the stress much longer.
Rin, the red almost gone from his eyes from fatigue, looks at Suguro when he addresses him. Then he looks at the weird... bomb? Grenade? It was white and pink and had a lavender bow. Definitely something Mephisto made]
What... is that...? Is it a grenade?
[... Well, they were probably going to die here one way or another. Did he really want it to be in a zombie's jaws? He wasn't ready to give up, but his body was. He could feel his legs shaking and his head spinning. He closes his eyes and frowns deeply] ... I'm sorry, Yukio, Shiemi... Shima and Izumo... I wasn't... we weren't able to save you. Bon... Do it. If we can take a few of these bastards down with us, then maybe Yukio and the others can finish the job!

It's not really giving up, either. If they're going to go down anyway, it might as well be with as big of a fight as they can give.
Bon nodded to Rin, and then he looked back to all the zombies in front of him.]
Just try your best, you bastards!
[One last shout was all he could give, and it was enough to draw more zombies in, making them rush forward. Then, right as they got close to Bon and Rin, Bon squeezed his eyes shut and pulled the pin.
For a second, there was nothing, and Bon thought that the zombies might reach them before the grenade went off. But then he felt a white-hot fire, starting at his left hand, and then rapidly bursting outward. Fortunately it was fast, so he barely had a moment to register the pain, before suddenly-
'Shifted' was probably the best word for what had happened. In one moment, Bon had been literally burning up from the heat and energy from the grenade, and in the next he was outside, surrounded by the noises of the night-time concert during the festival.
Bon gasped for air, backing up a few steps as he clutched his left arm to his chest. That had been the first part of him to burn up in the explosion, so he was more aware of how that part of him hurt. Or did it? After a few seconds of quick breaths as he looked around quickly, Bon realized that 1: he was not in that mall, and 2: he wasn't hurting anymore. He carefully unfolded his arm from his chest, looking down to his hand, only to find that it looked perfectly normal. No scorch marks, no missing fingers, nothing.]
Where...?
[This was not the mall of zombies. This was the festival. But the festival had been last week, hadn't it? Why was he here? Was this his last living memory, before he died?
Looking around again, people were watching him. One guy even looked like he might approach Bon, to ask him if he was okay. Bon didn't give him that chance, though. Instead, he took off running, heading towards the food stall Rin had ran at the festival.
If this was all a dying dream, then Rin would act like he had back then. If this wasn't, then Rin would be just as confused as he was, since Rin had been right there next to him. Whatever had happened to Bon, it should have happened to Rin, right?]

It doesn't hurt to die...?
(Not this time, at least)
He isn't sure what he expected. Heaven? Ha. Not for him. Probably right to Gehenna to meet his maker. What he doesn't expect is the weird tugging, like something was yanking his very soul around.
White, then... dark?
No. There were lights. And there were people in front of him, looking at him with concern.
"Um... are you ok? You're just kind of staring... Can I have my onigiri?"
Onigiri? Zombies don't like onigiri...
Rin shakes his head and looks around, eyes wide. Where...? Weren't they in Inari? In the mall? Wordlessly, he sets down the rice ball in his hand (when had THAT gotten there?) and exits the booth, much to the chagrin of the waiting customers and his coworkers]
... The... the festival? How... what....?
no subject
[Right about the time Rin leaves the booth is when Bon comes running towards him. He had to book it across the festival, but he doesn't really seem winded, rather more shocked and worried.]
Okumura, did you- What's the last thing you remember?
[Bon can't be sure that Rin experienced what he did, but he has to know. With how stunned Rin looks, maybe he did experience it all.]
no subject
[he stares at Bon, or rather, stares past him. What does he remember? A huge flash of light. Expelling all his flames at once. Hearing Bon yell at the zombies.]
Um....
Exploding?
no subject
Bon doesn't know what to think. If Rin remembers it too, then it can't be a dream, right? But they should be dead, not at the festival. Unless it was a vision of the future? But Bon had never had that kind of power, it didn't make sense for it to pop up now.]
What the hell...
[Bon looks upset, but he's not yelling about it, not quite yet. He's just emotionally spent, what with going from fighting for his life, to dying, to here.]
It was all real, right?
no subject
[he looks at his hands. His skin had started to crack and burn from the exertion of using his flames, and they were back to normal. And he wasn't exhausted]
... this is some crazy deja vu, though!! Where did you say you got that bomb, again...?
no subject
[If Bon knew that Mephisto was the demon of time, this would all make more sense. But right now he still thinks this is all one big accident. Or maybe a shared dream before they finally die.]
We- [He falters for a moment, before clearing his throat.] We should go find Kamiki.
[This is the night that she was kidnapped, right? If this is a dream, then anything they do is pointless anyway. But if it's not a dream, then maybe they can change how things happened?]
no subject
[Give him a little while, Bon. Rin will eventually remember what Mephisto told him the time he was invited over for a fancy dinner... of cup noodles. Right now, his mind was swimming. Eventually, he'd remember that an actual time-bomb is well within the purview of Azazel, King of Time and Space and Warping Physics to his Whims.
... Ah!!]
Izumo!! If this really is that night...!
no subject
[Tonight is the night Izumo gets kidnapped.
If they can stop that from happening, then they don't even have to worry about the zombies again.]
Okumura! Where did you find her, before she was taken?
no subject
[it seems so long ago. He barely remembers that night (this night?) because SO MUCH happened all at once... He looks up at the balloons, decorated like Mexican candy skulls, and thinks hard]
Mmmmm... Let me see.... Godain said I could leave for a while... then I went and found Shiemi... then we both went and danced with Yukio... then we got the call about Izumo... [a pause] Ah!! We finally found her at the outlook square!! Takara and Shima had been fighting! Do you think... if we run there now, we might be able to get to her before Shima does?!
no subject
[And with that, Bon takes off running. Because he's sure it's close to the time when he got the call too, and by the time he gets the call it's too late to intervene. He's hoping Rin is following him, but he doesn't take the time to look back and see.
The time spent finding each other and talking did eat up too much time, though. When they arrive at outlook square, Takara and Shima are already fighting, though Izumo hasn't been knocked out yet.]
no subject
Izumo!! Bon, there she is!!
no subject
[Bon goes rushing in, trying to get to Izumo before anything can happen to her. But they are both being loud, and very quickly they draw the attention of Shima.
Who promptly summons his powerful demon to serve as a stop-gap, since there is no way he can take on three people at once.]
no subject
He draws Kurikara and charges at the black-fire demon]
Get Izumo!! I'll keep this thing away from everyone!
no subject
[He will trust Rin to deal with that, then.
In the meantime, he is hoisting himself up onto the ledge to get over to where Izumo is, ducking under Takara's arm as he does so. He barely registers Izumo's scream of "What are you doing you damn gorilla?!" as he scoops her up in his arms and starts running.
He makes it into the bushes and ducks behind the building next to them, heading down an alley. He goes past one street, then a second, trying to get to the academy itself, hopefully to find a teacher who can help-
He didn't even notice the helicopter approaching at first, not until he hears the hail of gunfire. A half-second later he feels about a dozen shots hit him in the back, and then-
Then he is back in the middle of the concert, though this time he has collapsed to the ground, gasping out for air. Even if he is back in time, the panic from before is still there, and running on adrenaline for so long is wearing him out.
Rin will have to come find him this time.]
no subject
were Rin not suddenly snapped back to the onigiri stand.
He has to take a moment to collect himself. Again?! But he hadn't even died!! He was doing just fine!
Unless... Bon?]
Suguro!!
[Rin jumps up and, without saying anything to his coworkers, runs to where he hopes Bon will be; the concert. He cups his hands around his mouth and calls out for him]
SUGURO!!!! BOOOONNN!!! RYUUUUUJIIIIIIIIIII!! [... does he expect to get better results if he uses ALL his names?]
no subject
[Friendship upgrade = rejected.
But yes that screaming is a good indication that yes, Bon is there, and he is pissed off. And by the time Rin gets there, Bon's panicking has died down, and he is forcing himself to his feet.]
C'mon, we need to try again-
[And Bon falls down to his knees again. At this point they have been going for at least a few hours, between the original loop and that first loop, and the exhaustion is hitting him. Apparently, even though their bodies reset, tiredness carries over.]
