Stupid....I don't even know what to call this one
[So.
Ichigo.
Your house.
There are some weird things about it.
For one, there is frequently the sound of scratching and scurrying within the walls. Isshin has laid down many mouse traps, but they never seem to catch anything, and the scurrying does not stop. It's been going on for at least a year, if not longer, and nothing seems to be working. Even Yuzu and Karin have complained about it.
Additionally, on some nights the faint sound of a crying infant can be heard. But oddly enough, it isn't coming from outside. It's coming from beneath the floor in Ichigo's room, as if Ichigo has a noisy baby for a downstairs neighbor. But at the same time, if anyone investigates, there is never a baby down there. In fact, from the lower part of the house, it sounds like the crying is coming from upstairs! It is quite strange.
Along with all of that, small objects have been going missing. Toothpicks, buttons, safety pins, and so forth. Anything small and not attached to something bigger seems to walk away as if it had two feet.
Speaking of two feet...is that shoeprints in the spilled flour on the counter? But the prints are so small, there's no way anyone could make shows that small, right? Even Yuzu's dolls don't have feet that small!
There certainly are a lot of strange occurences in the Kurosaki household, and it will take some serious investigating to get down to the bottom of it.]

Of course, a quick look said that wasn't the case. So...if it wasn't a spirit, then what the hell was it? The way things vanished was weird, too-and the scratching sounds were annoying, to be sure.
But...something was weird, and he was going to find out exactly what the hell it was.
And his chance came sooner than he'd expected.
It was when he'd finished an impromptu hollow slaying, slipping back into his room easily and with little fuss. He was just about to go back into his own body when he heard that faint crying once more-and an idea occurs to him.
Like this, he could slip past physical objects...like the floor in his room.
...Time to take a look. Carefully, he went to his knees-and then let his face slip past the floor, expecting to see nothing but dust and the empty space between the 1st and second floors.
Instead, he saw a tiny house-and his face slipped past that as well, letting him see the inside. Was that...a tiny person?!]
What the hell...?!
[He didn't think speaking would startle the little guy-since he was in his shinigami form, an invisible spirit to most things. What were the chances that this guy would be spiritually sensitive?]

Though the 'outside' of the tiny home looked home-like, the inside was a mess like that of a pack rat. There weren't any tiny-person-furniture-stores, after all, so pretty much everything had to be made from everyday objects. the table was a matchbox. Chairs were upside-down thumb-tacks. Inner walls were actually just bits of cloth strung up on fishing line. Buckets were thimbles, clothing once belonged to miniature dolls, and the pair of baby beds had once been the two halves to an earbud case.
Speaking of babies, that man standing there happens to be holding one, who has gone past the point of crying and is now just sniffling as the man rubs its back and bounces it a little.
Of course, once he hears Ichigo's voice, the tiny man turns quickly and stares at him. This guy can see ghosts too, so he can see Ichigo. The baby, however, does not seem to notice him.
The staring lasts for a moment, as the man is not quite sure what to do. It's not every day that you meet a kid who can stick their head through a floor.]
Uh.
Hi?
no subject
[...Yes. that is his first reaction to seeing a tiny man in his tiny house comforting his(?) tiny baby. Because aforementioned tiny man should not be able to see him. He was still in his shinigami form, for god's sake!]
no subject
[Itty babies can't see or hear Ichigo, but they definitely hear Shiro's responses, and it makes the baby in his arms (Yukio, actually) start to fuss a bit more. They're definitely at least a year old, there's a couple teeth in their mouths already, but they're still young enough that they cry instead of talking.
Thankfully, Rin is still asleep, so there is only one baby to worry about.]
Look, your face is scaring him! How'd you even get in here anyway, you're way too big to fit.
no subject
But why can this guy see him, then?]
I came through the wall, duh.
[You gonna snark at him, he'll snark back.]
no subject
[ Yep, he sure did call Ichigo a name based on his hair color. It's not the same as calling him strawberry, but still. ]
no subject
[As soon as he says it, he reconsiders-To this guy, he probably is one.
Although he snorts at the 'red' comment. Better than strawberry, at least.]
No, I'm not dead. I'm a shinigami right now, that's why I can do this.
no subject
Which is kind of worrisome, Shiro is not so sure he wants to live underfoot of a master of life and death. It also worries him because cats are associated with the dead, and he really doesn't want to have to deal with cats.
He's probably about to get kicked out anyway, so there's not much point in worrying about it.]
Right. Well, mister Shinigami, I'll be out of your hair soon enough. Just give me an hour to pack and get the boys ready, and we'll be gone.
[Because nobody ever wants a tiny person living under their floors, let alone an entire family. The giant people are never kind to them. Shiro is hoping that Ichigo will be reasonable and will at least let him leave without siccing a cat on them, or getting a vacuum out.]
no subject
[Shiro can't see it, but Ichigo's hands just flew up palms first. Why does this guy think Ichigo wants him gone? He has kids, for god's sake-he's not going to force anyone with twin babies to move.]
I never said anything about you leaving! I don't really care-stay here as long as you want.
[And as always...Ichigo is TERRIBLE at lying. A single glance at him will tell that he's being completely honest, and his brows even knit in concern.]
I mean, I'm not going to force you out when you have two kids to take care of. And I'm sure the rest of my family wouldn't care, either.
[Far from it-Karin might grouse a little, but they'd all band together to make sure that the small family under Ichigo's bedroom got everything they needed. Heck, he could see Yuzu making tiny meals for them, even. ]
We're kind of used to weird stuff.
no subject
Truthfully, if Shiro didn't have his young sons to care for, he probably would have left anyway. It's better to be safe than sorry, and trusting the tall people was always a bad decision. But with two boys who were just barely walking, and with everything they would need...moving would be a huge hassle.
Plus, Ichigo looks like he's being honest. He doesn't look like the type who would be able to fake honesty, either.
Shiro sighs.]
Fine, fine, I'll stay. For now. But don't go telling your family about us, even if you think they wouldn't care. The less Giants that know about Borrowers, the better.
no subject
[He's not happy about it-and truth be told, he honestly thinks his family would accept Shiro and his sons-but he's not about to push it. Obviously, this guy has reasons for acting the way he does and it's not his place to ask.
Although a certain term catches his attention. Giants are pretty obvious, but...]
...You call yourselves Borrowers?
no subject
Yeah, because we borrow stuff.
[Like the 'cradle' Shiro is currently setting his little baby in, now that said baby isn't crying anymore.
Then he's going to walk over to where Ichigo is, and try to touch his huge face. Which he can do, because he has ghost-abilities just like Ichigo does.]
Y'know, you're a lot more solid than I expected someone who walks through walls to be.
no subject
[Feel free to yell at him for that, by the way-again, not that he really cares about the small items that are being taken, but that's definitely not borrowing by any stretch of the imagination.
He flinches a little at Shiro touching him, simply for the fact that he wasn't expecting it-and the feeling of a tiny hand on his face is kind of unsettling.]
Well, yeah. You can see me, so you can touch me.
no subject
[Yeah no he knows exactly what's up, and he doesn't try to mince words like other borrowers do.]
But that's the name we've used for centuries.
[One touch is enough to prove what he thought, and he pulls his hand away. Then he decided that no, one more thing is needed, and he flicks Ichigo on the tip of his nose.]
C'mon, I'll go up to your room. We don't need your family seeing you hanging out with your head in the floor.
no subject
Although the flick is pushing it, mister.]
Gah!
[RUDE OMG. Still, he nods, and pulls his head up-good thing too, the blood was starting to run to it-blinking before finally making his way back to his poor neglected body. If Shiro's quick enough, he'll be able to see Ichigo going back into his mortal body like how someone slips into a costume.]
no subject
Huh.
Well that sure is a thing.
While Ichigo is 'waking up,' Shiro climbs up one of the legs of his desk, and he's on the top of it pretty quickly. For someone so tiny, he's pretty good at getting around.]
So.
You sure you're not a ghost?
no subject
[Really, him waking up took very little time at all-it was his real body, not some gigai. Sitting up, he scowls at the tiny man-although it's more out of habit than anything else.]
I told you already, I'm a shinigami. But I've got a human body and a human family-the shinigami thing's more of a part time job than anything else.
[Well. Mostly human.]
no subject
[Shiro might have appreciated it a bit more if his height weren't measurable in tens of centimeters at the most.]
I suppose it's better for you giants to take care of the dead. People as small as me have a hard enough time against cats and lizards, let alone the souls of dead people who are over a meter tall.
no subject
[Although protecting people is awesome, so. He'll deal with it.]
Yeah, I bet. Actually, who takes care of the souls of the dead for you guys?
no subject
Sometimes there's Borrowers like me, who can see ghosts. They either talk to the dead or take care of their final business for them. That usually gets 'em to move on, but sometimes it doesn't work, and they...change.
[He frowns thoughtfully as he tries to think of a way to explain it.]
It's like...alright. So, hear me out on this. Borrowers have this...chain, I guess, that goes between their body and their soul. When they die, that chain breaks, and if they don't pass on, then eventually the spot where the chain was becomes a hole. Then they change into something else entirely, and usually they get pretty big.
I don't really know what happens after that, but I've seen Giants in black clothes before, fighting them.
no subject
[Ichigo instantly says it-his face grim and set. So they did become hollows-and gained in size, too. At least there were those that could convince them to move on-maybe they had their own soul society, or just came to the same one everyone else did-but hearing him confirm that these Borrowers went through the same cycle of life and death as they did was at once interesting and slightly unnerving.]
They become hollows-monsters that eat souls. Shinigami reap them, and thend the souls to Soul society-the land of the dead, pretty much.
no subject
[Honestly, Shiro isn't surprised. He knew something had to happen to them, since the world wasn't overrun with those monsters. And it's a comfort, to hear that they at least get to move on, instead of being damned.]
I'd say that it'd be handy to have a me-sized Shinigami, but I don't think they'd be very effective at fighting hollows.
no subject
[He does chuckle at that, though.]
Maybe if they stayed the same size as you guys. But...they always get big, huh? Make sense, I guess.
[That meant there were probably gillians and arrancar that were originally Borrowers, weren't there? It's sobering to think about.]
Maybe you'd be good against mice hollows or something, though.
no subject
[Which are still a challenge, to be honest.</small.] Truthfully, if we can find our dead, it's not that hard to convince them to pass on. Most Borrowers aren't attached to this world like Giants are. The problem is that a lot of times, we never find their bodies.
no subject
[He was about to question that, but he cuts himself short. with the way they could be taken away by cats, or something else....god, how much of a struggle is their day to day lives?
...speaking of...]
Hey, um...if you ever need anything, I could get it for you.
[That way he wouldn't have to tromp out and around-and while they don't have any pets (besides Kon), there's still other dangers he'd have to watch out for.]
no subject
Actually, if you're going to offer, I wouldn't mind baby food. Rin and Yukio eat so much, I can barely keep up with them. And since nobody in this house eats any, I have to go pretty far to get it.
[The lack of pets is exactly why Shiro chose this house, by the way. No pets is the best for raising two growing boys.]
