1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.

[ WHY DOES SHIRO HAVE BABIES?

That can be addressed only as she's herding him inside and getting the door closed behind him. ]

When I said my door was always open, somehow I wasn't expecting this. [ She's just fussing, though, and it's obvious there's no actual complaint behind her words. ] Come in, come in. To the couch, go on, I've already got tea made.

[ Oh, and... ]

Since when have you had children?

[Shiro is all to happy to drop his things on the living room floor and sit down finally. There is so much crap he has to carry now that he's got two kids to take care of, and it's seriously weighing him down. There might also be a Japanese sword on top of that pile of crap too, which is odd since he doesn't use swords.

The only thing he'll keep with him is the two babies, but they get to lay down on the couch for now since they are sleeping.]

Since about a week ago. They're Yuri's actually.

[Yuri is one of Shiro's brightest students, and she quickly became a colleague of his once she graduated from the exorcist academy. Well...was, now.]

[ There's a clatter as a particularly cute pink and white teapot and a matching cup and a distinctly out of place beaker gets settled down on the coffee table. So maybe she hadn't been keeping up on dishes as well as she wanted, that mixed aesthetic still wasn't entirely her own fault. ]

Yuri's?

[ She pulls an afghan off the back of the couch, rolling it up and making a little baby guardrail just to be on the ridiculously safe side. She was everywhere when she was worrying over other people. ]

You're really worrying me here. If I end up with wrinkles at twenty-eight, I won't forgive you.

[ Never mind that she was thirty. ]

[Marieplz they are practically newborns, they're not going to roll anywhere.]

Weren't you twenty-eight the last time I saw you?

[He's trying to keep it to light conversation here. Everything that's happened in the last week has just been too much for him.

His appearance is probably a good hint that something is up too: his clothes are clean, but there are several week-old cuts on his forearms that are still healing. Those are just the visible ones, too.]

But yes, they're Yuri's. Yukio looks just like her- he's the one with the moles on his face. The other one is Rin.

[ What if they're just ambitious? What if?

If a newborn wanted to learn to roll over a few months early, it wasn't going to be resulting in disaster on her couch. She's a little neurotic about things. Give her long enough, and she was going to raid the bedroom for a dresser drawer to make a neat little makeshift crib for them.

Just a little bit neurotic, yes.

The comment about her age gets a scolding finger pointed at his face, but it doesn't have the usual kind of threat behind it when she's looking at the sleeping infants' faces. ]

They're lovely.

[ She ends up turning and sitting on the floor, pouring the tea for them both. She takes the beaker as a good hostess ought to. For the moment, she wasn't going to press past that. ]

It's just me here for the night, and then maybe a few more after that. There's plenty of space if you'd like to stay a little while.

[He takes the beaker and looks it over for a moment. Marie has the best serving dishes ever, and it even gets a little smile out of him. Scientific tea party time!

But no really he's grateful for Marie, he didn't know who else to turn to.]

Thanks. I need to find a place to stay here in Death City for a bit, so I'll need to stay here for a couple days until I get an apartment arranged.

[Yep, he sure did travel halfway around the world with two newborn babies to live in Nevada!]

[ He was an exorcist, though. They loved their keys to weird places, and you didn't get weirder anywhere in Death City.

She smiles up at him, completely ignoring that the mixed aesthetic looked ridiculous. ]

Whatever you need. Even if I wasn't sure I owed you that much, it's yours.

[ She really wants to ask, but no. She'll just reassuringly pat his knee instead with a fairly light touch. ]

You know I'm good for it.

[He is, too. Marie is a dear friend of his, he would do anything for her. It's just that it's his time to ask for help.]

I'll find a way to pay you back, once I've got everything taken care of.

[He looks down at the two sleeping babies again.]

...It might be a bit. I never knew just how much went into taking care of little kids.

Don't worry about it.

[ Her voice is light, but there is the obvious weight of determination behind her words. ]

We'll get you on your feet. Babies aren't so bad once you come to terms with the fact that you're never going to sleep again.

They're gross.

[He has a disgruntled look on his face as he says this. He's not grumpy at the babies, just at the mess they make.]

They puke and poop and when they cry snot gets everywhere. And it's twice the puke and twice the poop because Yuri had to go and have twins.

Oh, it's no worse than anything else you've run into in your line of work. I'm sure you're managing with it fine.

[GRUMBLE GRUMBLE he is just forever tired, babies need constant care. It doesn't help that he's still wondering if he did the right thing by adopting them.]

By the way, don't tell anyone that they're Yuri's kids. If anyone asks, I just found them abandoned at a church.

I'll keep that in mind.

[ She's quiet a moment, and then she asks a question that she really doesn't want to. ]

Shiro? Where is she?

[Shiro is quiet for a long, long time before he finally answers.]

She's dead.

[His gaze falls down to the two boys, sleeping peacefully on the couch beside him.]

She died giving birth to them.

[ Marie hesitates for only a moment, but then she's pushing herself up from where she's sitting. She's never been one for distance, emotional or otherwise, and the loss of a student was something that no one suffered easily. Her arms go around him in a hug, firm and comforting. ]

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

[Oh, these are hugs. Shiro is okay with this, after a moment he reaches up and hugs her back.

He didn't realize how much he had been holding in until it all finally starts tumbling out. It's probably a sign of how much he trusts Marie that he freely tells her the truth.]

They're half-demon kids. I know, they look human, but they're part demon. And that demon, he went after everyone when Yuri went into labor. They- everyone's dead, Marie. Everyone except me.

[He means only the people on his team, who had been assigned to watch over Yuri while she gave birth, but many of them were his former students and friends.]
