1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?

16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

[SO YEAH. They live in the same world, and Shiro is somehow flashback!Shiro where he is 34 and not forever old.

One night in December, there's suddenly a knock at Marie's door. HMM I WONDER WHO THAT MIGHT BE?]

[The lab is dark. A figure sits, slumped bonelessly against a wall like a ragdoll thrown there by a child in a tantrum. The air smells of blood and cigarette smoke. Lightbulbs flicker erratically.]

[ Marie was a goddamn hammer, she wasn't even so much as looking out the peephole when she goes and opens the door. Things that caused problems didn't generally keep on causing those problems after they'd disturbed her. ]

[It's about what he had expected to find, though it's way too soon by his count. Stein should have lasted longer, he hadn't been showing any signs of insanity this bad. He must have been good at pretending.

Pretending to be sane didn't hide the fact that five people had gone missing, though.

Shiro knows what he has to do. He's got his shotgun over one shoulder, and several handguns tucked into various hidden parts of his coat. But still, he finds himself hesitating.]

You're getting sloppy.

[Ok good point.

Even though Shiro looks exhausted as fuck and his arms are full of babies, he still manages to give Marie a weak smile.]

Yo. Long time no see.

[ WHY DOES SHIRO HAVE BABIES?

That can be addressed only as she's herding him inside and getting the door closed behind him. ]

When I said my door was always open, somehow I wasn't expecting this. [ She's just fussing, though, and it's obvious there's no actual complaint behind her words. ] Come in, come in. To the couch, go on, I've already got tea made.

[ Oh, and... ]

Since when have you had children?

[A puff of air that could be a laugh, and he stands, moving in a way that makes it obvious he's not completely in control of his body.]

Sloppy?

[The word trails off into confusion.]

I don't remember.

[He doesn't know if he's lying or not. There's blood on his hands, splattered on the white of his lab coat. When he looks at Shiro his whole head turns rather than just his eyes, a sweeping, loose movement.]

Am I?

[He'd been trying to fight it for so long, hanging on to the edge in fear of the unknown.

Then he let go.

It's not so bad here.]

[Shiro is all to happy to drop his things on the living room floor and sit down finally. There is so much crap he has to carry now that he's got two kids to take care of, and it's seriously weighing him down. There might also be a Japanese sword on top of that pile of crap too, which is odd since he doesn't use swords.

The only thing he'll keep with him is the two babies, but they get to lay down on the couch for now since they are sleeping.]

Since about a week ago. They're Yuri's actually.

[Yuri is one of Shiro's brightest students, and she quickly became a colleague of his once she graduated from the exorcist academy. Well...was, now.]

Just a little.

[Just a lot. But Shiro is trying to keep calm here, if he lets his emotions get the better of him then it'll be even harder to do what he has to do.

He keeps his eyes on Stein as he moves. Shiro has no idea if Stein will become violent or not. It's better to prepare for the worst, though.]

Do you remember the talk we had, a few months back?

[Fear. That's the faint emotion slipping up through the haze.]

I can find my place to be. I just need to keep looking.

I know.

[He's speaking softly now, not unlike how a friend would speak to their pal who is having a rough time. It sounds almost too light, for how serious the situation is.]

And I promised you I'd help you find it, remember?

[circumsutus]

[But that's what this is, isn't it? Stein's "rough times" are just so much worse than other people's.]

... that's right.

You promised me.

What's a promise worth these days?

[He can't even find himself. How is he supposed to find his place?]

Everything.

[He's going to test the waters a bit by trying to take one step closer to Stein. He stops after one step, though, watching for his reaction.]

If we can't keep our promises, then what else do we have left?

I'm a man of my word. I promised to help you, which is why I'm here.

[ There's a clatter as a particularly cute pink and white teapot and a matching cup and a distinctly out of place beaker gets settled down on the coffee table. So maybe she hadn't been keeping up on dishes as well as she wanted, that mixed aesthetic still wasn't entirely her own fault. ]

Yuri's?

[ She pulls an afghan off the back of the couch, rolling it up and making a little baby guardrail just to be on the ridiculously safe side. She was everywhere when she was worrying over other people. ]

You're really worrying me here. If I end up with wrinkles at twenty-eight, I won't forgive you.

[ Never mind that she was thirty. ]

[He's not going to attack, not until he feels threatened.]

Not much. [Stein has the feeling he hasn't kept his promises recently.]

Are you going to kill me? [He's not really interested in the answer.]

[Marieplz they are practically newborns, they're not going to roll anywhere.]

Weren't you twenty-eight the last time I saw you?

[He's trying to keep it to light conversation here. Everything that's happened in the last week has just been too much for him.

His appearance is probably a good hint that something is up too: his clothes are clean, but there are several week-old cuts on his forearms that are still healing. Those are just the visible ones, too.]

But yes, they're Yuri's. Yukio looks just like her- he's the one with the moles on his face. The other one is Rin.

If I have to.

[It's his intention, but if another option presents itself then Shiro won't say no to it. He's not too keen on killing one of his best friends.]

I'd rather find another solution, though.

You have to kill rabid dogs.

[He shifts his weight, suddenly prepared to attack. He's not quite rushing Shiro yet, not with the small thread of recognition in the back of his mind that says (this person is precious to you).]

[Shiro tightens his grip on his shotgun in response, though he doesn't remove it from his shoulder yet.

He wonders if being forced into a fight would be better right now. It certainly would make it a lot easier to shoot his friend.]

But you're not a rabid dog. You just need some help, that's all.

[ What if they're just ambitious? What if?

If a newborn wanted to learn to roll over a few months early, it wasn't going to be resulting in disaster on her couch. She's a little neurotic about things. Give her long enough, and she was going to raid the bedroom for a dresser drawer to make a neat little makeshift crib for them.

Just a little bit neurotic, yes.

The comment about her age gets a scolding finger pointed at his face, but it doesn't have the usual kind of threat behind it when she's looking at the sleeping infants' faces. ]

They're lovely.

[ She ends up turning and sitting on the floor, pouring the tea for them both. She takes the beaker as a good hostess ought to. For the moment, she wasn't going to press past that. ]

It's just me here for the night, and then maybe a few more after that. There's plenty of space if you'd like to stay a little while.

[He takes the beaker and looks it over for a moment. Marie has the best serving dishes ever, and it even gets a little smile out of him. Scientific tea party time!

But no really he's grateful for Marie, he didn't know who else to turn to.]

Thanks. I need to find a place to stay here in Death City for a bit, so I'll need to stay here for a couple days until I get an apartment arranged.

[Yep, he sure did travel halfway around the world with two newborn babies to live in Nevada!]
