[SO.

There's this hotshot 20-something exorcist who is really fucking talented but has an ego the size of the empire state building so many of his coworkers simply tolerate his presence. But he's always busy with work and doesn't get nearly enough time for recreation.

So what is he doing on his first day off in the last month? Buying booze and cigarettes, of course. And some food too, but that is vastly outnumbered by the other, more important supplies.

It's only a one-night party, he's got to go back to work tomorrow, but he's going to make it count. Because he doesn't get nearly enough days off, and he's getting to the point where clubs annoy him.

Clearly he needs to meet someone else and do something besides get drunk at home, right?]

[That goes for maybe thirty seconds, before Shiro finally gets annoyed enough to call him out on it.]

You don't have to fake it, you know. I already figured out you weren't that badly hurt.

[He blinked at him... and just shrugged his shoulder, smirking.]

So you're going to ditch a kid in the middle of nowhere then? Good priest work.

[NOPE Mephisto is still going to the hospital.]

If you want medical attention that badly, you can have it. But you don't have to fake being more injured than you are to get it.

I didn't want medical attention, really.

Did you even get attacked by a demon? Or did you go looking for one to stir up trouble with?

[Another shrug of his shoulders.]

Wanted to get someone's attention for once. Since no one cares unless a kid is getting attacked or whatever.

[He would grab a cigarette to smoke, except his had been ruined when this kid had run into him. Whoops.]

Creating trouble just to get some attention, what is wrong with you? Is 'getting attention' worth putting other people's lives at risk?

[Well that was easy.]

Considering no one gives a damn about me, why should I care about them? At least if a demon is on the loose, people pretend to give a shit about a poor little bruised kid.

People don't give a damn about you because you've got a rotten personality. Someone who would endanger others for shits and giggles doesn't deserve attention.

[And oh look, here they are! Except it's not a hospital, it's a small clinic.]

If you want attention so badly, become a better person. You'd be surprised how many people you can get to like you by just not being a shithead.

[Although he's the first person to actually call him out for his rotten personality. He's a bit shell shocked by that.]

[He shoves him in the chest.]

It's not like I asked to be ignored by my dad! Do you think I deserve that too?!

[Oho, Shiro struck a nerve. Perfect.

He wasn't expecting there to be demon parental problems mixed in, though. No wonder this kid is messed up. Shiro might have felt bad for him, if this kid hadn't just put an entire street full of people in danger for shits and giggles.

He'll overlook the shoving for now, though if Mephisto tries again he might find himself on the wrong end of a judo-throw.]

You say I don't know shit, and yet in the five minutes I've known about you, I've managed to figure you out.

[And then, just to prove his point:]

You're a kid born of an unfortunate situation with a huge chip on your shoulder about it. You're so starved for attention that you're resorting to dangerous behaviors just to get someone to notice you, even if that 'noticing' is someone yelling at you for being so stupid. You think the world owes you something because you got a shitty start to your life, but instead of going out and actually making your life better, you're here whining to one person about how they 'don't know you.'

[And he pretty much hit every point on him. He stood there, just being forced to listen to what he has to say. Mainly because he doesn't know where to go from here. His body is shaking and his hands are in fists.]

S... shut up! Yeah, so?! So maybe I want some attention like that! Maybe I don't care how it happens!

[He shuts his eyes and shakes his head.]

Maybe I just want to know what this stupid human love thing is! Maybe I'm sick of offering my body up to fellow demons in hope I can actually feel something! And you know what I feel?! Hateful!

[Oops. He said way too much. But his breathing is heavy and he's angry.]

Hateful that the only physical touch I can get is some demons looking for a quickie! There! Do you think you still know me, you damn priest?!

Yep, I still do.

[Okay, he'll be slightly less of an asshole now. Slightly.]

Offering up your body isn't going to get you what you want. Humans are different from demons. If you want attention from one, you're going to have to get to know one first.

I don't want to get to know a human. You're all the same jerks. I just want to get into bed with one and get it over with.

[He pushes himself away.]

I'm going somewhere else to get what I need. It's clearly not here and this is a waste of my time.

[Fortunately he hasn't learned the magic of transportation and so is just walking away.]

[Oh good, that gives Shiro a chance to just wave at him as he leaves, and get off one last pot shot in Mephisto's direction.]

That's a good idea, since you'd never be able to get that from me!

[Is that a challenge?

That might be a challenge.

Or it could just be Shiro attempting to be a shithead but it's worded like a challenge.]

[Whoops that's a teenage boy he's taunting. He immediately gets a reaction.]

Hah! I wouldn't even want to, old man! You probably have a small dick anyways!

[Besides, Shiro's made it clear he doesn't find him interesting. Why bother?

...Because he knows he's right.]

Besides, you don't even like me! And I could find a demon in an hour who will pretend to care.

I don't even like you now! Maybe if you were a bit more responsible, that would change.

And big or small, all the ladies I've been with were satisfied.

[So much more mature than Mephisto. Clearly.]

What, be responsible? Oh like the rest of the humans here?

[He snorts.]

I've been satisfied plenty physically. Do you think that matters anymore to me? I want someone who gives a damn and it's not you.

Says the guy talking about dick sizes.

And weren't you storming off in a huff anyway?

...Weren't you going to stop me? Summoning more demons and everything to get attention?

Oh yeah, I'll still do that.

[Suddenly his face goes serious.]

Summon a demon for shits and giggles again, and I'll shoot you along with the demon.

Ha! You'll never find me to shoot me! I'll stay far away from you!

[In retrospect, he probably should have stayed closer to Shiro. And probably should have listened better. Not that he didn't tell him to keep doing what he was doing, but the idea was suggested. And now, here he was. In an alleyway with three big strong demons, on the ground with his shirt destroyed and his pants ripped too, leaving him in just a pair of boxers for the most part.

'Hey, c'mon. Why are you stopping?'
'Yeah, thought you liked the attention. Begging big demons to fuck you.'
'Pffft, this won't make anyone like you any better, Samual.'

He sat there scared as one of them slapped him again. Shaking his head rapidly as another slap hit his cheek, causing him to cough and whimper as it was hard and painful.

'Well then. We'll just have to take what you owe us.'

He couldn't speak as one of the demons reached to grab him again, gasping for air and for the first time in his life, hoping that some human would see this and stop it.

Shiro was right, wasn't he? No one cared because he was a brat.]

[Well, Mephisto is about to get his wish, in a way.

The first demon, the one holding Mephisto, isn't there for much longer. A well-placed shot of an anti-demon bullet ends his life quickly, and he vanishes in a cloud of dust.

Before the other two can say anything, Shiro speaks up.]

If I were you, I'd scram right about now.

[Except for Mephisto, he better stay put.]

[When he heard the gun go off, he swore his life was over. But he felt himself flop back against the wall as the other two demons quickly ran off. He gasped for a moment, leaning forward to breath in...

And then turned his head to look at Shiro.]

...Okay. You're right... I have a shitty personality. You happy?

Not really.

[Even though he has a feeling of smug self-satisfaction over being right, he's not really happy. Because really Mephisto, messing with demons again?]
