While you're in Hoshido and finding out about the family you never knew you had
and will eventually kill, there's a random Hoshido citizen there! One who is like all the other people there, except he's got pointy ears like Corrin does.Something he notices right away. And it's something that draws him right towards Corrin, because he thought he knew everyone in his very small community of 'people who aren't quite fully human.'
The question is, how does Corrin feel about this strange guy tailing him as he goes about his day?]
Shiro
This though... this is a new level of "this damn demon is obviously a voyeur".]
Well, dear, what do you think? [Stein asks, looming behind Shiro while they stand in the front hall of the inn, deliberately choosing his words to make the "romantic relationship" clear.
The woman who'd greeted them seems surprisingly unbothered by this, and more bothered by the general existence of the giant foreigner standing in her doorway.n It's a reaction Stein's used to by now.]
no subject
But hey. If that damn weaboo demon wanted a show, he would get a show. And if they got to kill a few demons living in some of the abandoned rooms, then all the better.
So of course Shiro was playing it up too, even moreso than he did in those moments of 'I'm being flirty for a reason~' that he had sometimes. After all, they were a newlywed couple on their honeymoon, not a team of exorcists there to work. So he leaned in and threaded his fingers in with Stein's, rubbing his thumb over Stein's knuckle.]
I think it looks great. You know how much I love a good hot springs.
[Then, he used his free hand to cup the side of his mouth and stage-whisper to the woman who had greeted them:]
Almost as much as I love him.
[Playing up the sap indeed.]

We'd really like a room somewhere private, [he says, moving his arm so it's draped sort of over Shiro's shoulders, still holding onto that hand so he can pull the smaller man close.] We wouldn't want to disturb your other guests.
no subject
The private room was a good call too, because it put them near the supposedly haunted rooms. Just around a corner and down two more doors, and they would be there. Perfect access late at night.
Once they're dropped off by their guide and left for some privacy for the time being, Shiro sets about checking their room for any signs of tampering. All of the rooms with strange happenings in them are in the northernmost hall at the back of the inn, but that hall shares a courtyard with the room they're in, so the infestation could have spread a bit.]
Stash the gear in the futon closet, maybe? Nobody's gonna be looking in there, especially if we put out the 'do not disturb' sign.
[Nobody wants to walk in on a naked couple after all.]

Rin
So, one day, while Rin is in front of him, he goes up behind him and gives that tail a light slow rub going downwards. Just to see what it would do.]
no subject
This, however. This is something new. And he can't stop the shiver that runs up his spine in a very visible manner. That, combined with how beet-red he goes, is probably a good indication of what just happened there.
Then he's trying to swat Diarmuid's hand away.]
Don't touch that!
no subject
Sorry! I just wanted to feel what it was like.
[His face turned a bit red too.]
Did it hurt?
no subject
Not exactly, no. It was more like...it felt good?
[His face is so red right now and he's thinking about it even more. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all?]
Um, you can try again. But go a little slower?
[Because he would be lying if he said he wasn't curious too.]

It's afternoon and Shiro's dodging work again, which means hanging out in Mephisto's office and bothering him. But this time, he picks up a brush he finds on a dresser somewhere.]
Just how many hair brushes do you have? You can't be that prissy.
no subject
[He kicks his legs up on his desk. Of course Shiro is dodging work and using it to judge his office.]
You don't have that many, I realize. But certain people do.

AYYYYY
And really, Shiro knows he should stay inside. The less he's out and about, the less he's likely to draw attention. Even with these clothes he has now (just a t-shirt, jeans, underclothes, and shoes, all purchased at a secondhand store the day before), he still sticks out like a sore thumb. Albinism is pretty rare, and Shiro has a very distinctive look about him. One that the right (or, depending on how you look at it, wrong) people will recognize right away.
But he can't help it. He's never been outside before. He's never seen the sky before. He's never felt the wind against his skin or heard the songs of birds as they fly by. He's never felt grass beneath his toes. And now that he can do all that and more, he absolutely is enjoying those little things. All of this still feels like a dream that could end at any moment, but these sights and sounds help ground him and confirm that this is all real.
So Stein will be able to find Shiro laying in the grass outside of the little cabin they took over, laying on the grass and looking up at the sky. He's not doing anything particularly meaningful, just watching the clouds roll by. But hey, he might be up for talking, after three days of relative silence.]
no subject
He hasn't slept in four days, hasn't slept well for months, maybe years before that, but it's going to be worth it, it has to be. He'd spent too much time in Section 13, too many years with his hands dripping with the blood of mothers and children, too long telling himself he could change things, he could make things better, he could somehow fix things without setting off any alarms.
Maybe he had, maybe his calm smile and quiet reassurance and promises followed through had meant something to at least one of those kids ("subjects", they were supposed to call them, or "experiments", and Stein had been written up more than once for talking about them like they were something else). But the outcome is the same as if he'd been harsh and distant, if he'd never taken sincere interest in the kids as people, if he'd never taken pains to make things easier for them.
It would have been easier for him if he hadn't, if he'd been able to look at them and see test subjects, if he'd treated them like demons or like any of the adults he'd ever taken to pieces. But he couldn't stop himself from looking at the clones and seeing children, and it's been killing him, because of course he's a mad scientist with a bleeding heart.
He hangs up the call (a contact in South America, who owes him for an emergency surgery he'd performed years ago, who'd now promised to call a mutual Russian friend to arrange for boat tickets to Australia, which would be sent to Stein by a Chinese scientist who knew the Russian and Stein, but not the Brazilian) and goes out into the main room to check on Shiro.
And Shiro isn't there.
He throws the door open, and thankfully, Shiro's right there, sprawled in the grass and watching the sky. Stein lets out the breath he was unintentionally holding as the split-second panic of the situation fades, and he walks over to stand beside the boy.]
You know you're not supposed to be out here, [he says, just stating a fact.]
no subject
[Shiro is also just stating a fact.
In Section 13, Shiro had to dull his reactions. The scientists, they wanted perfect little clones to use how they saw fit. No emotions, no sass mouth, no crying. Just unquestioning obedience and sacrifice. Those who didn't fall in line got spirited away in the middle of the night, and Shiro had to try really hard not to think about their screams.
But three days out from constant supervision is enough for his actual personality to start poking through. And in an unsurprising turn, the teenager has a sass mouth. Funny how that works out, huh?
Shiro doesn't trust Stein yet, not really. He's a scientist, just like the others, and even if he had been slightly kinder than everyone else he still has the blood of Shiro's brothers on his hands. Guilt may have gotten them this far, but Shiro isn't counting on it to last. It's better to stay on guard and expect the worst. For all he knows, this could be a trial of some sort, and he could be back in the lab by morning.
And if he's meant to die after all, then he wants to at least have a couple good memories before he goes. Something different than the cold, unfeeling hallways of the lab.]
It's so big. Have you ever noticed that? It's like it goes on forever.
[Maybe if he lays there long enough, the sky will swallow him up and take him away from everything on this shitty planet. Maybe.]

I MEAN. Let's assume it's some kind of Valentine's Day jamjar murdergame situation, which I will name as soon as a pun that's half as good as Jingle Hells comes to me. There are heart decorations everywhere, the wallpaper is pink, the works.
Of course, in a situation like this, they have to have assigned rooming. Two people to a room for optimum romance. Rin's assigned to a room with someone named V/V, according to the sign outside the door.
Who probably is this angel-looking girl who's sitting on the bed kicking her bare feet when he walks in. She turns to smile warmly and genuinely when he enters.]
Hi! Are you my roommate?
no subject
And she's cute too, which is a plus as far as Rin is concerned.]
Yeah, I guess so. It's kinda weird that they put a boy and a girl together though, normally they don't do that.
[Normally they put boys and girls in entirely different dorm buildings, but details.]
I'm Rin.
no subject
[Maybe he's unhappy they put him with a girl, since it's so weird.]
I'm V/V. It's nice to meet you.
